Eating Right Helps Prevent Diabetes in Women.

Healthy eating habits can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes by 55% in Hispanic women, 48% in Caucasian women, 42% in Asian women, and 32% in women of African descent. According to researchers, healthy eating habits associated with a lower risk for type 2 diabetes include a lower intake of saturated and trans fats, sugar-sweetened drinks, red meat, and processed meat along with a higher intake of fiber, polyunsaturated fats, and nuts. Lead author Dr. Jinnie Rhee writes, “As the incidence of type 2 diabetes continues to increase at an alarming rate worldwide, these findings can have global importance for what may be the largest public health threat of this century.”
